Stöðvarfjörður - Fish Factory
Throughout September, I spent some time participating in a residency with Fish Factory, IS. The Creative Centre is located in Stöðvarfjörður, a remote village in the East fjords of Iceland. The purpose of the residency is to provide both emerging and established artists, designers and creatives a space for free expression, alongside meeting new artists to create a small collaborative community.
They offer either a shared or private studio space. The centre also has available a wide variety of workshops including, wood, metal, ceramic, a photographic dark room and a print studio. The factory is also fully equipped with a kitchen, small library, concert hall and a recording studio.
I had originally intended to make a few sculptural pieces during my stay at the Fish Factory, however, my plans changed as a result of having a show in Fukuoka which I had to prepare for. Influenced by my geological surroundings, I spent a large amount of my time in the surrounding mountains; foraging, collecting stones, observing the natural features of the landscape and spending a create deal of time drawing.
